The Stand Up Paddle is the ancestor of modern surfing.

The first boards were carved out of tree trunks. Today, this sport is practiced a lot on inflatable boards.

The benefits of this sport are numerous: strengthening of the deep muscles and improvement of balance, toning of the abdominal chain, internal muscles, buttocks of the lower muscle chain and upper body muscles.

How the courses are organized

Equipment: a large board big enough to stand on and a paddle.

The handling is quite fast. In class you learn:

  • The mastery of balance sitting and kneeling before standing.
  • The technique of rowing, holding and changing direction.
  • The improvement of your posture, increasing the efficiency of your paddle stroke.

During our SUP rides, you will discover the coast and beaches around Montpellier or the countryside with its ponds and canals.

The Stand Up Paddle, also called SUP or Paddle, is a fun aquatic activity accessible to all!

The Paddle allows you to go for a stroll while being physically active.

By strolling along the coast or discovering the canals and ponds around Palavas-Les-Flots, you discover the region while working out.

In summer, replace your morning jogging with a sporty rowing trip.When it's warm outside or during your summer holidays at the seaside, you enjoy gliding on the water while doing sport.

After a first introduction, other activities are offered to you:

  • SUP Yoga
  • SUP Fitness
  • Surfing on the waves

Learning

Steps to learn and progress in Stand Up Paddle:

  • Discovery of the equipment: you learn how to carry the board, how to adjust the paddle and how to fix your leash.
  • Rowing on your knees: if you have never practiced SUP, start on your knees first. Be aware of the instability of the board before you stand. Learn at your own pace.
  • Find your balance standing up: start on a calm water surface, preferably without waves and wind. As soon as you feel comfortable on your board, you can stand up. Keep your knees slightly bent, put both feet next to each other at the widest point of the SUP.
  • Learning to row: you will learn how to hold the paddle and techniques to row efficiently. Rowing will give you balance. It allows you to "lean" on the water. As soon as you gain a little speed, balance sets in as if by magic.
  • Discovering how to turn: you learn the different techniques for turning (single turn, backstroke, surfer turn).
  • Surfing in SUP: take advantage of the waves to learn how to surf in Stand Up Paddle. Learn how to get up, get up and follow the wave.

Safety first!

A few safety rules

  • Tell someone you know that you are launching and in which direction you wish to leave.
  • Always wear a buoyancy vest.
  • Hook the leash to your ankle or below the knee.
  • For safety reasons, stay within 300m of the beach, especially with an inflatable SUP.
  • If you are going for a ride, go upwind first. On the way back, when you are more tired, the wind will help you to get back.
  • Take a mobile phone in a waterproof case.
  • Bring a bottle of water and a cereal bar.
  • For longer strolls, wear sunglasses and a cap.

Coaching

After 1 hour of coaching, Stand Up Paddling will no longer hold any secrets for you. You will learn rowing techniques and discover SUP Fitness: muscle strengthening, stretching and balance exercises.

Adults/teens

There is no age to practice Paddle! Playful and easy to learn, all you need is to know how to swim and be comfortable in the water.

Row at your own pace!

Surf the small summer waves! Get a tan and be rocked by the swell!

Children

As long as the child can swim, he or she can practise Stand Up Paddle.
