Kitesurf Kitesurf lessons and courses

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider looking to improve, we adapt our lessons to your level so you can fully enjoy all the sensations of kitesurfing.

Kitesurfing is a thrill sport

Invented in the 1980s by the Legaignoux brothers from Quimper, passionate water sports enthusiasts, kitesurfing was tested on the Occitan coast between Les Aresquiers Beach and La Grande Motte. This water board sport (like windsurfing) has gained huge popularity in recent years and has become one of the most practiced water sports! To ride, you need a large kite, a twintip (a bidirectional board with footstraps), wind, and a great kitesurfing spot!

Kitesurf Lesson Overview

How lessons work
  • Meeting point at the Monki center (Quai de l’île Cazot / Rue des Hirondelles in Palavas).
  • You will be equipped with a wetsuit, harness, helmet, buoyancy vest, and walkie-talkie.
  • Don’t forget sunscreen and a bottle of water!
  • Once the kitesurf equipment is loaded onto the boat, we head to the learning spot best suited to the day’s weather conditions.
  • Lessons take place in the morning, afternoon, or as full-day sessions.

Beginner Level

New to kitesurfing? First, our instructors introduce you to the equipment on the beach so you can ride safely and in the best conditions during your first educational session. You’ll learn how to rig a kitesurf kite. Water sports are accessible to everyone, and our kitesurf school supports beginners in discovering strong sensations. Next, you’ll learn how to fly the kite, understand safety rules, and know how and when to release the kite when being pulled. If you’ve ever heard “Push the bar!” or “Let go of the bar!”, you’ll probably hear it quite often during your first lessons!

Intermediate Level

Varied exercises for progressing riders You’ll learn how to manage the power of your kite through varied exercises at the best spots in Camargue and Roussillon—preparing you for the next step: body dragging! You’ll use your kite to glide through the water, first downwind, then to return to a specific point or retrieve your board. Next comes learning the waterstart, allowing you to get on the twintip—the classic kitesurf board—and glide a few meters on the water. This is usually the moment you fall in love with the sport! The next stage: riding in both directions, going upwind, and turning around without sitting in the water. Advanced progression lessons Learn new tricks, try new boards such as strapless surf or Tiki, or get introduced to kitefoil!

Advanced Level

There is no limit to learning in kitesurfing. This highly addictive sport constantly fuels the desire to progress.
Learning new tricks, jumps, unhooked moves, and a wide variety of transitions—the possibilities are endless.

You can also choose a downwind session or learn a new discipline such as kitefoil or Tiki.

Getting introduced to riding with a foil kite, beach mountainboarding, or testing new equipment—anything is possible.

Join us for advanced lessons or progression coaching.

Prerequisites for advanced lessons and guided riding:
You must be autonomous in kitesurfing.

You know how to choose the right equipment according to weather conditions, prepare your gear, ride upwind on a twintip in all conditions (even with offshore wind), return to your starting point, and perform self-rescue.

Lesson Duration

Lessons usually take place over a half-day (approx. 5 hours) in the morning or afternoon. Depending on conditions, the school may offer full-day sessions.
