Frequently
Asked
Questions
.

Do I need to bring my own wetsuit or other equipment ?

The kitesurf school provides the main equipment : wetsuit, harness, buoyancy vest, and helmet.

However, we do not provide accessories such as neoprene booties, beach shoes, gloves, lycra, or neoprene tops. You may want to bring your own.

If you already practice a water sport and have your own wetsuit, you are of course welcome to use it during the lessons.

Can a family member attend my kite lesson ?

Kitesurf and kitefoil lessons take place at spots adapted to the day’s weather conditions.

They may take place on different beaches around Montpellier (Palavas-les-Flots, Les Aresquiers, Espiguette, Port Camargue) or offshore.

Access is by motorboat. For legal and capacity reasons, a companion may only board the boat if they book a lesson or rent equipment.

Please feel free to contact us for more information.

I am autonomous and want to improve: will the instructor have time to coach me ?

Yes, absolutely.

Lessons take place in small groups, with a maximum of 4 kites flying, even when advanced riders are present.

You will be equipped with a walkie-talkie so the instructor can coach you remotely. You do not need to return to shore, which allows us to maximize water time.

What happens if weather conditions do not allow us to practice ?

Some conditions may prevent practice, such as :

  • Insufficient or excessive wind depending on your level
  • Waves that are too large
  • Temperatures that are too low or extreme heat
  • Storms or heavy rain

If you have booked a single lesson, it will be rescheduled.

For a multi-day course, we offer alternative activities (wakeboard, efoil, wingfoil, SUP).

In the event of a health crisis, the course may be postponed or cancelled.

I practice windsurfing: will I learn kitesurfing or wingfoil faster ?

Practicing windsurfing makes it easier to learn towed and wind-powered board sports.

Although kitesurfing and wingfoil share similarities with windsurfing, they also have their own specific characteristics.

We invite you to read the dedicated article on our blog to learn more.

From what age can you learn kitesurfing ?

Learning primarily depends on the child’s motivation and psychomotor development.

We have already trained young riders from 10 years old, but learning is generally more suitable from 13 years old and 40 kg.

At Monki, children can discover kitesurfing from 6 years old, in a playful way and with specially adapted equipment.

It is best not to rush the learning process in order to preserve both enjoyment and safety.

What personal equipment should I bring for the lessons ?

  • Sunglasses with a retainer strap
  • Beach shoes or socks
  • Sunscreen
  • Cap or hat
  • Water bottle (1.5 L)
  • Snack or picnic for full-day lessons
  • Towel or poncho

How do I pay for kitesurf lessons and courses ?

A 50 % deposit is required at the time of booking.

The balance must be paid on the morning before the start of the lessons or course.

Where is the meeting point and can it change ?

The meeting point is located at Quai de l’île Cazot, Rue des Hirondelles, Palavas-les-Flots.

You can park in the nearby paid parking area or in the free covered car park located 500 m away (blue building with pink flamingos).

The meeting point is fixed. However, in exceptional situations (weather conditions), adjustments may be necessary. You will of course be informed.
